Prometheus-X contributes to the future of trusted data transactions

Prometheus-X has contributed to the consultation on prEN 18235-3, the European standard for trusted data transactions and interoperability under Article 33 of the Data Act. The standard is intended to define the essential technical requirements that enable participants to exchange data and use data services across European data spaces. For Prometheus-X, this is an important opportunity to make sure that interoperability is considered not only within individual ecosystems, but also across sectors, technologies and governance models.

Why Cross-Ecosystem Interoperability Matters

Our contribution focuses on capabilities that are essential for practical cross-ecosystem interoperability. We advocate for mechanisms that allow participants to discover catalogues beyond their own data space, dedicated requirements for consent that cover purpose, lifecycle, revocation and verification, and support for multi-party contracts that reflect real service chains involving several organisations. We also propose a shared, protocol-neutral vocabulary for contract actions, so that observers and participants can understand the progress of a transaction across different negotiation protocols. These requirements should define interoperable properties while leaving data spaces free to choose the protocols and technologies that best fit their context.

DSIF: Evidence From the Field, Not a Blueprint

The Data Space Interoperability Framework (DSIF) provides concrete examples of how these capabilities can be implemented. Its federation model supports cross-sector catalogue discovery through machine-readable descriptions and connection profiles. Its consent work addresses the verification of purpose-bound consent across ecosystem boundaries, while its contract work explores multi-party agreements and service-chain scenarios. These are presented as implementation experience and reference approaches, not as requirements for every data space to adopt the Prometheus-X technology stack.

One Baseline, Built Together

The contribution was developed and supported collectively by DSIF partners, who aligned around the adjustments needed to make the standard effective in real cross-ecosystem scenarios. Partners contributed through the consultation channels available to them, including their respective national standardisation organisations, while also bringing their own sector experience and technical perspectives. This shared position reflects a common commitment to strengthening TDT as an open interoperability baseline: one that can be implemented by different data spaces, supports existing protocols, and leaves room for future technologies and approaches.
