Prometheus-X is an association that unites an international community to build and manage digital commons that empower individuals and organisations to control and freely share their data. By enabling an open and decentralised data sharing infrastructure it is delivering a practical framework to share data and services for different industries.
As the world enters a complex transition driven by environmental challenges, energy transformation, demographic change, digitalization, and rapid advances in AI and robotics, trusted and interoperable data infrastructures are essential to empower people, organisations, and innovation at scale.
Prometheus-X provides an open source, lightweight, and easy-to-deploy stack for European data spaces, enabling trusted data sharing and trustworthy AI from cloud to edge. Through a unique service chain, it integrates trustworthy AI functionalities, secure data exchange, and personal data management, ensuring data sovereignty by design.
Prometheus-X is interoperable with other leading stacks such as EDC, SIMPL, and FIWARE, and is developed by a large, cross-sector open source community, making data spaces accessible and practical for individuals, public institutions, and organisations across Europe.
At Prometheus-X, we have an ambitious and yet clear mission: to improve the competitiveness of the EU economy by creating a trustworthy and interoperable infrastructure and enabling individuals, researchers and organizations to share data responsibly. Our goal is to make a better use out of high-quality data and drive innovation in the education and skills, tourism, media and other sectors.
Knowledge becomes truly powerful when it is shared! Prometheus-X aims to strengthen Europe’s global competitiveness by enabling seamless, secure, and decentralized data exchange across various sectors. Individuals, organizations and business should enhance personal AND non-personal data exchange to bridge the gap between market needs and available potentials. Our goal is to revolutionize data sharing, empower collaboration, and create a data-driven ecosystem that shapes the future.
A strong theory is reflected in practical applications, which is why within Prometheus-X around 30 use cases were developed to demonstrate the significance of our mission. These use cases illustrate how data can be shared responsibly and effectively to solve real-world challenges. They highlight interactions between users and systems, showing how data-driven solutions can improve outcomes in various fields. At Prometheus-X, we focus on well-defined objectives and showcase concrete examples of how data spaces can be leveraged to their fullest potential, ensuring meaningful impact in everyday life.
Prometheus-X building blocks make it easy to build data spaces handling different types of data, including personal data as well. We are working on more than 20 open-source digital commons, building blocks which make it possible to set up a reliable data sharing infrastructure. They belong to four categories (core, trustworthy data sharing, data transformation, utility), designed to provide well-defined services that facilitate trustworthy data sharing in multiple aspects.
EDGE-Skills (European Dataspace for Growth and Education-Skills) aims to provide a human-centric, distributed and sovereign data space infrastructure that is deployed and ready to use as plug and play through a set of innovative cloud services with first use cases in the education and skilling domains.
EDGE-Skills unites 36 organisations from eight European Union (EU) countries to address pressing challenges in education and workforce competitiveness. By federating initiatives across Europe, it aims to impact over 5 million learners by the end of 2026 by pursuing the following three core objectives:
1. Developing and deploying high-value education and skills data ecosystems.
2. Innovating cloud-to-edge services for the education and skills data space.
3. Ensuring accessibility for all stakeholders.
ARIANE aims to develop and manage infrastructure services for the circulation of education and skills data. This infrastructure allows stakeholders in this sector to pool and share data in order to enhance their services by personalizing learning, training, guidance, and professional integration, as well as for research purposes. It seeks to form a Data Space Education & Skills (DASES) that will bring them together and offer new innovative services, thanks to the infrastructure enabled by Prometheus-X.
DS4SkillsGO is a new project co-funded by the European Commission that picks up the work of its predecessor and proudly carries its name forward. It focuses on fostering innovation, improving education and training policies, and supporting employment strategies across Europe. By addressing immediate skills development needs, the project contributes to long-term EU goals, promoting a skilled and adaptable workforce for the digital age.
