Prometheus-X insights

An Interview with Interview with Development Lead László Gönczy

In order to provide insights into the progress and strategic direction of Prometheus-X, we have asked our workpackage leaders to highlight key milestones, challenges, and future priorities from their critical perspectives. After the interview with use cases lead Chloé Féré follows development lead László Gönczy.

Looking back on Prometheus’ first year, what have been the defining milestones in the development of its foundational building blocks, and in what ways have they influenced Prometheus-X’s strategic direction?

As the lead for Work Package 3 in Prometheus-X, my main task is to harmonise the development, integration and testing efforts across the initiative. We are essentially creating a system made up of reusable building blocks, similar to a house built from LEGO bricks.

The most important task currently, both now and in the long run, is to ensure that these blocks can be seamlessly combined into ‘service chains’ that can support new business functionalities.

One of the key milestones so far has been the ability to create a uniform design for these building blocks, which will be important for their future maintainability and sustainability. We are now getting closer to having working demos and scenarios built on top of these building blocks, sparking valuable discussions and insights with our partners.

As complexity increases, what are the primary challenges your team is encountering, and what measures are you taking to address them effectively?

Looking ahead, I think the next big step will be to have fully functional combinations of these blocks and examples of their use across different use cases and setups. To achieve this, we will need closer collaboration through iterative workshops with the use case leaders and other partners (like data providers), to understand the concrete requirements for these block combinations and service chains.

We’ll also need to set up processes to handle changes to the blocks, as they may need to be reused across different scenarios.

With Prometheus-X advancing into its next phase, how have the underlying complexities evolved from its early stages, and what strategies are being deployed to navigate these shifts with precision?

Another key focus area will be a systematic review and modelling of potential error scenarios in this complex architecture, as we move from the initial development phase to a more operational one. This is an area where BMEhas specialised expertise, and I’m excited to see how we can apply these techniques to ensure the robustness and reliability of the Prometheus-X platform.

As Prometheus-X moves forward, what are the key areas of focus for the team, and how do you anticipate these priorities shaping the trajectory of the initiative in the coming months?

Overall, I’m optimistic about our progress. In the coming months, our focus will shift towards integrating real-world data and expanding service interoperability across components and service chains.

This will be a crucial step in realising the promise of the Prometheus-X data space and providing a trustful data-sharing platform for our users. As well as crucial to ensure compatibility with other dataspace initiatives, on which there are several important activities being carried out in the project.
