Paris, March 10, 2025– Prometheus-X, the association developing open source dataspace components used in several industries (education, media, legal, tourism) and FIWARE Foundation, the non-profit organization that encourages the adoption of open standards using Open Source technologies for the development of smart solutions on a global basis, are proud to announce a strategic collaboration to propose a relevant, complete, open, and interoperable data space stack. Instead of fostering competing solutions, we have chosen to augment each other’s strengths and ensure seamless interoperability while growing our respective communities.

A Unified Data Space Stack for Trust, Interoperability, and Innovation

This data space stack will integrate and support components already available from both communities:

• GAIA-X Trust Framework – for trusted identities
• Dataspace Protocol – enabling trustworthy publication of offerings, contract negotiation and control of data exchange, compatible with relevant industry standards, with support of TM Forum bindings
• OID4VC – supporting decentralized Identity Management and Authentication in M2M and H2M scenarios, in alignment with EU Digital Identity recommendations
• ODRL-basedAuthorization – supporting enforcement of policies expressed in ODRL
• Trust Framework for Data Rights – ensuring transparent data governance
• End-to-End GDPR Compliance – including personal data and consent management
• Service and Data Chains – enabling seamless orchestration of data services
• Enhanced Interactions with Data Intermediaries – improving data exchange mechanisms
• Data Plane Standardization – ensuring scalability and full interoperability

Enabling Seamless Integration and Cross-Compatibility

To ensure a smooth and robust integration of the technologies both organisations are aiming to realise the following strategic steps:

• Prometheus-X and FIWARE will make their dataspace connectors interoperable.
• Prometheus-X and FIWARE will collaborate on ODRL based authorisation management, to provide highly configurable policies for providers.
• Prometheus-X will integrate key FIWARE components, such as decentralized identity management and TM forum contract negotiations, into its dataspace solutions.
• FIWARE will integrate Prometheus-X components for personal consent management, service chain management, and support of interactions with data intermediaries to enrich its connector offerings.

This collaboration is not just about technology—it’s about people. By aligning stacks Prometheus-X and FIWARE data space stacks, developers from Prometheus-X and FIWARE will come together to build the next generation of data spaces.
